We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.

Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include:

  • email addresses
  • usernames
  • passwords

  • contact or authentication data
  • student names
  • student data (reports, grade level, etc.)

Sensitive Information. When necessary, with your consent or as otherwise permitted by applicable law, we process the following categories of sensitive information: student data.

Payment Data. We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you choose to make purchases, such as your payment instrument number, and the security code associated with your payment instrument. All payment data is handled and stored by Stripe. You may find their privacy notice link here: https://stripe.com/privacy.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Information automatically collected

In Short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our Services, and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Like many businesses, we also collect information through cookies and similar technologies.

The information we collect includes:

Log and Usage Data. Log and usage data is service-related, diagnostic, usage, and performance information our servers automatically collect when you access or use our Services and which we record in log files. Depending on how you interact with us, this log data may include your IP address, device information, browser type, and settings and information about your activity in the Services (such as the date/time stamps associated with your usage, pages and files viewed, searches, and other actions you take such as which features you use), device event information (such as system activity, error reports (sometimes called "crash dumps"), and hardware settings).

2. How Do We Process Your Information?

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law.

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you
  • To deliver the lesson planning, scheduling, assessment, and progress-tracking features you use
  • To fulfil AI generation and extraction requests you initiate, and to meter your plan's AI usage
  • To process subscription payments and, if you enable it, to issue family invoices through your own connected Stripe account
  • To respond to support requests
  • To protect the Services against fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • To comply with legal, tax, and recordkeeping obligations

3. What Legal Bases Do We Rely On?

In Short: We only process your personal information when we have a valid legal reason to do so.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (providing the Services), your consent (where you provide it, and which you may withdraw at any time), our legitimate interests (securing and improving the Services), and compliance with legal obligations (tax and financial recordkeeping). We do not use your information for behavioral advertising and we do not sell it.

4. When and With Whom Do We Share Your Information?

In Short: We share information with service providers that operate the Services, and in a limited set of legally required situations.

  • Service providers (subprocessors) — see Section 5.
  • Parents you invite — a parent you invite can see only the specific student they were invited for.
  • Legal requests — where required by law, subpoena, or court order.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this notice.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. Who Are Our Subprocessors?

In Short: A small set of United States providers host, secure, and process data on our behalf.

  • Supabase, Inc. (United States) — Database, authentication, and file storage. All data submitted to the Service, including Student Data
  • Lovable (United States) — Application hosting, deployment, and server functions. All data submitted to the Service, including Student Data
  • Stripe, Inc. (United States) — Payment processing for LitTrack subscriptions and for family invoices a tutor issues through their own connected Stripe account. Educator and payer billing data. Family invoice line items are sent using a non-identifying reference (for example "Tutoring — Invoice #1042"); student names are not sent to Stripe.
  • Google (Gemini) and other AI model providers, accessed through the Lovable AI Gateway (United States) — AI generation and content extraction requests initiated by the Educator, transmitted over HTTPS/TLS and subject to each provider's own published terms. Only the content included in the specific AI request
  • Google LLC (Google Drive) (United States) — Optional per-tutor Google Drive connection used to browse and import the tutor's own files. Files the tutor selects, plus the connection's access tokens

The authoritative list, including changes over time, is published on our School & District Data Agreements page.

6. Do We Use Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies?

In Short: We use only strictly necessary cookies and browser storage.

We use authentication cookies and localStorage, Stripe's fraud-prevention cookies on the billing page, and preference items that remember interface settings. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Full detail is in our Cookie Notice.

7. How Do We Handle AI Features?

In Short: AI runs only when you ask it to, and only on the content included in that request.

Activity generation, extraction from photos and PDFs, and error analysis send the relevant content to an AI provider through the Lovable AI Gateway to fulfil that specific request, over HTTPS/TLS. AI actions are metered against your plan. We rely on each provider's own published terms regarding how submitted content is handled; we do not independently verify or guarantee their data-handling or model-training practices, and we make no promise that your content is excluded from provider model training. Avoid entering information into AI-powered fields that you would not want processed by a third-party provider.

8. Is Your Information Transferred Internationally?

In Short: Our providers are United States based.

We operate from New York, United States, and the providers listed in Section 5 are United States companies. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, which may have different data protection rules than your country.

9. How Long Do We Keep Your Information?

In Short: Only as long as needed for the purposes described here, or as required by law.

We keep account and student information for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual records at any time in the app, and you can permanently delete your entire account from Settings. The following are targets rather than guarantees: verified deletion requests completed within 30 days, and removal from backup copies within 90 days. Billing, tax, and transaction records are kept for the period required by law and are separated from your name and contact details.

10. How Do We Keep Your Information Safe?

In Short: We use reasonable safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure.

We use HTTPS/TLS in transit, row-level access rules so each account reaches only its own data, scoped parent access, and least-privilege administrative access. Storage-level encryption at rest, backup schedules, and processing regions are determined by our infrastructure providers and we rely on their published practices. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials.

11. Do We Collect Information From Minors?

In Short: Account holders must be 18 or older. Student information is entered by adults.

We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account. Educators enter information about students and are responsible for obtaining any consent required by FERPA, COPPA, and state student data privacy laws. Student information is governed by our Student Data Privacy Policy. If we learn that a minor created an account, we will delete it.

12. What Are Your Privacy Rights?

In Short: You may access, correct, export, or delete your information.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to your personal information, correction or deletion of it, a portable copy, and to withdraw consent. Most of this is available directly in the app; otherwise email raisingreaderswithelise@gmail.com. We verify requests using the email address on the account and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Do-Not-Track. We do not currently respond to Do-Not-Track browser signals, because no uniform standard exists. We do not track users across third-party websites.

State-specific rights. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights described above, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. We do not engage in any of those activities, so there is nothing to opt out of. You may appeal a denied request by replying to our response.

13. Do We Make Updates To This Notice?

In Short: Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.

We will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we make changes. If the changes are material, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Services after an update means you accept the revised notice.

14. How Can You Contact Us About This Notice?

If you have questions or comments about this notice, you may email us at raisingreaderswithelise@gmail.com.
